Exercise #10

A researcher suspects that both meaningfulness and length of presentation affect word retention, as scored on a standardized test. Four groups of fifth-grade students were randomly selected and then assigned to different treatment conditions. Group A was given low-meaningful words and a 2-second presentation time. Group B was given a list of high-meaningful words and also a 2-second presentation time. Group C was given low-meaningful words and a 5-second presentation time, and group D received a high-meaningful word list and a 5-second presentation time. The total number of words correctly remembered was recorded.
