| Who are we ?
The Emory Infant and Child Lab is part of the Emory Child Study Center, which is part of the Emory University Department of Psychology. We are a group of undergraduate and graduate students and volunteer research assistants led by Dr. Philippe Rochat. All of our studies have been approved by the Emory Institutional Review Board.
Why Participate in Child Studies?
There are a variety of studies going on at the Emory Infant and Child Lab at any given time. Each study is designed with the intention of learning more about cognitive and behavioral development in infants and young children between birth and 6 years old.
We conduct studies in Atlanta and around the world. Most recently, our studies have taken us to the South Pacific Islands, Brazil, Lebanon, China and many other places.
Our current studies focus on sharing, negotiation, and self-other development. After working with your children, we are able to publish books, papers, and articles about these topics. Dr. Rochat also travels around the world teaching and lecturing on infant and child development, in addition to his teaching duties here at Emory University.
Think of this as teaching your child to volunteer...and being a part of the process of education!
How can I have my child participate?
Please email us if you are interested in participating with your daughter or son, of if you have several children that you want to bring in! We can provide childcare during your visit, but only upon request. You can also call us at (404)727-2979.
What to expect at your visit
In a single visit of approximately 30 minutes, we will observe your child while he or she plays with toys, interacts with an adult, or watches a video display. Most children have a lot of fun with these games, and they often want to come back often. You may stay with your child throughout the study and you may choose to withdraw your child from the study at any time.
The studies take place at the Emory Child Study Center located at 1635 North Decatur Road, Atlanta, GA, 30322, and free parking is provided behind our building. Your child will receive a small token of appreciation for participating, and you will be fully informed of the study and its outcome. We think the visit will be both pleasant and rewarding for you and your child.
