The Center for Prenatal Assessment and Human Development at Emory University, directed by Dr. Eugene Emory, studies prenatal and early infant development. More specifically, we are interested in the dynamics of the maternal-fetal relationship and the unfolding of fetal and infant brain-behavior relationships. Our research ranges from basic science research on the organization of fetal and infant sensory and motor abilities to implications of maternal psychopathology and medication use for fetal and infant outcome. Our methods include fetal actocardiographic monitoring and ultrasonic imaging (including Color Doppler Energy to capture fetal cerebral blood flow); infant behavioral assessments; and biochemical assays of the stress hormone cortisol.
